February 16, 2019

9:30 AM–10:30 AM
Room: Workshop Room 2

Price: $0 (free and open to the public, but advance registration is required)
Limit: 35 people

Language barriers and cultural differences can make learning more challenging for nonnative English speakers. In this workshop, we will discuss specific difficulties teachers and students face, and outline strategies for bridging communication gaps, and incorporating the awareness of differences in language and culture into studio art classes.

Leader: Nichole Van Beek is an artist and has taught ESL and art classes since 2002. She currently teaches in the Intensive English Program at Pratt Institute and drawing at Suffolk County Community College.

Free and open to the public, however, advance registration required. Depending on availability, tickets may be obtained on-site in the conference registration area.

This workshop is generously supported by the Emily Hall Tremaine Foundation.

There are no refunds on registration for the Annual Conference, Special Events, or Workshops.
